Mohun Bagan Eyes Back-to-Back Wins in Durand Cup
Ray Sports Web Desk: After a commanding start to their Durand Cup campaign with a 3–1 victory over Mohammedan SC, Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) will take on Border Security Force FT (BSF) in their second group match on Monday.
Spanish coach Jose Molina, who recently took charge of the squad, remains cautious ahead of the encounter, despite BSF being considered the weaker opponent in Group B. In a major boost for the Mariners, forward Manvir Singh is fully fit and set to return to the starting lineup, replacing Kiyan Nassiri on the right wing. Manvir, who shares past connections with some BSF players, expressed disappointment over the decline of talent from Punjab, attributing it to the dissolution of teams like JCT.
Molina is unlikely to make wholesale changes. Tom Aldred will partner Deepak Tangri in central defense, with Tangri stepping in for Apuia, who is suspended due to a red card in the last match. Dipendu Biswas remains the only other foreigner in the XI, while Alberto Rodríguez could be introduced in the second half to gain match fitness.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Molina said, “BSF is an unknown opponent. We aim to win first—goal difference can come later.” Despite their opening win, he admitted concerns about the team’s fitness and stressed the need for a fresh start: “Last season’s trophies are history. We have to begin again from scratch.”
MBSG fans will hope the team continues its winning momentum—and that Manvir’s return adds firepower up front.
