IND vs ENG: “Sketches and Strategy: Sai Sudarshan Reflects on Test Debut, Rishabh’s Injury, and England’s Aggression”
Ray Sportz Web Desk: Debutant Indian batterSaopened up about the intensity and learning curve of his maiden Test match experience in England, sharing a blend of emotions, challenges, and insights from the game. Speaking to the press, he touched upon the unpredictable pitch, the mind games from England’s pace attack, and how he uses drawing and visualisation to stay mentally composed.
“I was just sketching in the notebook during the first Test to relax a bit. It helps me stay in and out of the game,” Sai said, when asked about the mysterious scribbles seen on camera.
Sai praised the Indian opening pair for setting the tone and discussed how variable bounce and overcast conditions made batting difficult. “The wicket had two paces and the ball kept doing something all day,” he noted, adding that he tried to “play tight and stay longer.”
On his dismissal down the leg side — a repeat from his debut — Sai admitted it was frustrating but not unusual. “I didn’t really know how I edged it. England tries that often. If they had taken the catch today, I’d have walked off,” he said with a smile.
He also spoke candidly about the blow Rishabh Pant took during the game. “He was in a lot of pain and has gone for scans. It would be a big loss if he doesn’t return.”
When asked about pressure, Sai remained composed: “It’s not pressure for me, it’s an opportunity to express myself. I just want to focus on the moment.”
From facing Archer and Stokes with short-ball tactics to being part of a high-octane Test series in England, Sai’s early career is shaping up with grit, learning, and resilience.
As the match continues, India will hope their young batter continues to turn sketchbook calm into scoreboard impact.
