IND vs ENG: Root’s Masterclass Puts England in Driver’s Seat
Ray Sportz Web Desk: Joe Root produced a sublime innings of 150 to put England firmly in control on Day 3 of the fourth Test against India. With strong support from Ollie Pope (71) and captain Ben Stokes (77* retired hurt), England ended the day at 544/7, leading India by 186 runs.
Root’s knock not only anchored the innings but also saw him surpass Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run-scorer in Test history, behind only Sachin Tendulkar. His measured approach dismantled the Indian bowling attack on a pitch showing signs of wear.
India’s bowlers struggled for consistency, with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar picking up two wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah struck late, but by then England had taken a commanding position.
With two days remaining and the pitch expected to deteriorate further, England will look to press for a win and seal the series. India, meanwhile, face a daunting task to stay in the game.
