Ray Sportz Web Desk: The third day of the Lord’s Test ended in high drama as tensions flared between India and England. With both teams tied at 387 runs, a heated exchange unfolded when England came out to bat for just one over at the end of the day. Indian captain Shubman Gill appeared visibly frustrated, accusing the England batters of deliberate time-wasting.
However, senior batter KL Rahul backed his captain at the post-day press conference. “We had six minutes left. Two overs could easily have been bowled. England batters were clearly wasting time. It’s understandable that the captain lost his cool,” Rahul said.
Rahul was India’s standout performer on Day 3, scoring a composed century at the historic venue. Now the second Indian to have scored two Test centuries at Lord’s, he expressed satisfaction at his innings: “I’ve always enjoyed opening the innings. I’m glad to contribute in these testing conditions.”
Despite strong partnerships with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul believed India missed an opportunity to gain a first-innings lead. “Pant getting run out just before lunch hurt us. Had that not happened, we might’ve pushed further ahead,” he noted.
With two days left, Rahul remains optimistic. “Jadeja played really well too. We still have two full days. We’ll take the field on Day 4 with the goal of winning the match,” he concluded.
