Ray Sportz Web Desk: India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant has criticized the quality of the Dukes ball used in the ongoing Test series against England, calling it “irritating” and “unreliable” due to its tendency to lose shape rapidly during play.
Speaking to the press, Pant said, “I’ve never seen the red cherry go out of shape to this extent.” He added that players have repeatedly requested replacements during matches, which disrupts the natural rhythm of the game and affects both batting and bowling conditions.
The left-hander also questioned the ball gauge system used by match officials, suggesting that a smaller and more consistent ring should be used to judge ball deformation more accurately.
England captain Ben Stokes echoed similar concerns, further highlighting inconsistencies in the testing equipment and the manufacturing quality of the Dukes ball.
The ball manufacturer, however, defended their product, blaming evolving pitch conditions and aggressive batting styles for the faster wear and tear.
As the series progresses, players and fans alike await whether the ICC will step in to review the standards and testing methods for match balls.
