IND vs ENG: Jaiswal Shines at The Oval, Credits Seniors for Gritty Ton
Ray Sportz Web Desk: Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played a pivotal role in India’s strong comeback on Day 3 of the ongoing Test against England, scoring a composed 118 runs under testing conditions at The Oval. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Jaiswal credited his knock to the guidance and encouragement from senior players and coach Gautam Gambhir.
“Rohit bhai told me to just keep playing—‘khelte rehna’—and that stayed with me throughout the innings,” said the 22-year-old, whose innings helped India post a substantial lead. He also acknowledged the influence of Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, saying he continues to learn from their experience.
The young batter shared a crucial 107-run stand with nightwatchman Akash Deep, who impressed with a gritty half-century. Jaiswal praised Deep’s resilience: “He batted really well. We just wanted him to stay in and support the innings.”
India set England a target of 374 runs, and the hosts ended Day 3 at 50/1, facing a tricky fourth-innings chase. “There’s movement on the wicket. It won’t be easy, but we’re confident,” Jaiswal concluded.
With confidence high in the Indian camp and momentum on their side, Day 4 promises high drama as both teams eye a decisive result.
