Ray Sportz Web Desk: India kept their series hopes alive after securing a hard-fought draw against England in the fourth Test at Old Trafford. On a tense fifth day, all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar produced unbeaten centuries, denying England a victory and snatching the momentum away from the hosts.
Following the match, head coach Gautam Gambhir delivered a sharp response to critics who had questioned his decision to back a young squad after senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket earlier in the tour.
“This is India’s best team. I know the strength we possess. Every player here is ready to fight for the country—that is the foundation of this side,” Gambhir asserted.
Praising his team’s resilience, he added: “The fifth day of a Test is always the toughest challenge. To see three of our batters score centuries under such pressure on this wicket was outstanding.”
The coach also reserved special words for skipper Shubman Gill, saying, “The way Gill has led this side on his first overseas assignment is remarkable. It doesn’t feel like he’s captaining abroad for the first time.”
India will head to The Oval for the series decider starting July 31, with fitness concerns lingering over spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. However, Gambhir assured that the team will go all out for a win.
