Ray Sportz Web Desk: India roared back in style to take a 2–1 lead in the T20I series against Australia, scripting a dominant 48-run victory at the People First Stadium in Gold Coast on Thursday. After the first match was washed out and the second went Australia’s way, Suryakumar Yadav’s men bounced back strongly in the third and carried that momentum into the fourth, keeping the series alive and tilting it in their favor.
Winning the toss, Australia opted to field first — a decision they would soon regret. Indian openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma gave their team a solid start with attacking intent. Abhishek looked fluent for his 28, while Gill narrowly missed a well-deserved half-century, falling for 46. Contributions from Shivam Dube (22) and skipper Suryakumar Yadav (20) steadied the middle order, before Axar Patel’s unbeaten 21 helped India reach 167 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Australia’s chase began promisingly, with openers Mitchell Marsh (30) and Matthew Short (25) setting the tone. But once they departed, the hosts’ innings unraveled quickly. India’s spinners turned the match on its head — Washington Sundar was the star with three wickets, while Shivam Dube and Axar Patel picked up two each. Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Varun Chakravarthy chipped in with one wicket apiece as Australia collapsed for just 119 in 18.2 overs.
The win not only showcased India’s spin depth but also marked a memorable first outing at the Gold Coast venue for the young Indian side. With one match remaining, India will look to carry this winning momentum and seal the series emphatically.
