Ray Sportz Web Desk: India stormed to a six-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in a gripping Asia Cup Super Four clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, keeping their unbeaten run in the tournament intact.
Chasing 172, India’s opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill set the tone with a scintillating 105-run stand. Abhishek dazzled the Dubai crowd with a 39-ball 74, peppered with towering sixes and crisp boundaries, while Gill played the perfect foil with a fluent 47 off 28 balls. Their onslaught blunted Pakistan’s pace attack and put India in complete command by the halfway stage.
Tilak Varma (30*) steered the chase home as India reached 174 for 4 in 18.5 overs, with seven balls to spare.
Earlier, Pakistan posted 171 for 5 after being sent in to bat. Sahibzada Farhan anchored the innings with a fighting 58, supported by handy cameos from Salman Ali Agha and Faheem Ashraf. India’s bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav, kept the scoring under control with disciplined spells through the middle overs.
The contest carried its usual high-voltage intensity. Both teams once again skipped the customary pre- and post-match handshakes amid ongoing diplomatic tensions. A few fiery on-field exchanges between Indian batters and Pakistan’s pacers added further drama, drawing umpire intervention.
With this win, India consolidated their position at the top of the Super Four table and moved closer to sealing a place in the final. Pakistan now face a must-win encounter against Sri Lanka to stay in contention.
